Reviews/Comments:
Out of rich, multi-colored, and multi-textured bolts of cloth Kaye Abikhaled has woven a shawl of words both complex and simple, heart-breaking and sublime. Lyrics of Lebanon is an honest, true, grief-and-hope-filled view of a torn region, bathed with tears, and, yet, not devoid of hope.
From cherries to cigarettes to strong coffee to cedars it is the smallest of images that will stay with you, images that do not mean to be metaphors but, couched in such a war-torn environment, cannot avoid it. … For not only is this a book of war and mourning, it is also a book of generosity and beauty and unquenchable spirit. The details in almost every poem are what give the book its power. Ms. Abikhaled writes of Lebanon with all its history, richness, and culture. But, like in the poem, “The Orchard”, she writes with the intimate knowledge of one who knows the land.
You will find yourself revisiting many of the poems, not just because you want to, but because you must.
– Alan Lee Birkelbach, Poet Laureate of Texas

Reviews/Comments:
Her work is interesting as a historical document. Her
experiences are moving and beautifully expressed.
Her style is vivacious yet timeless.
– Lisa Kahn.
With cinematic elegance, Kaye Abikhaled allows us
into the world of a six year old in Germany in WWII…
This epic free verse saga has both personal and public
significance. The anecdotal style allows us to see
through the eyes of a witness of the time — to see
war by its effects upon civilians, and to see the
results after war — with a success story worthy of the
best American classics. Kaye has woven intricate
portraits of people and times long gone, but
remembered cinematically and accurately… Yet this is
more than a war story — the humanity of her
descriptions empowers us to trust that even in the
worst of times, some salvation occurs.
– Thom The World Poet

Comments:

Reviews/Comments:
Through the ages several poets emerge to take their place holding the pillars of poetic standards and breadth. Some of these names are known. Some seemingly lack recognition except from their peers. It does not matter to the poet, for he or she poetizes not for fame but for freedom — freedom of expression, freedom of ideas, freedom to stand tall and timeless. Such a poet’s words lie between the folds of this book. Read her words, embrace her beauty, behold the soul.
– Lawrence Jaffe, Poet
